Measure Soil
CO2 Respiration Directly
THE NEW KIND OF SOIL QUALITY TEST |
|
This easy-to-use soil test kit measures soil
biological activity, is reliable, portable and
inexpensive.
The Solvita® soil-life test kit provides
an important new tool for gardeners, farmers and scientists
to evaluate soil microbial respiration rate in an efficient
and cost-effective manner. Soil respiration is an important
aspect of soil quality and a good indicator of soil fertility.
Solvita® was designed by scientists at the
Woods
End® Research Laboratory who have been testing soils
for more than two decades. Woods End's work has focused on
organic soil management and compost quality. The Solvita test,
in addition to accurately measuring soil biological activity,
provides an important interpretation guide that converts readings
to useful units and provides insight into soil fertility.
The guideline provides tips for soil organic management based
on the results of soil quality testing. This test procedure
is as reliable as laboratory test methods and is presently
the only alternative to more expensive Dräger tube procedures
used in some soil investigations.
Important validation tests of the Woods End
'Soil Life Kit' have been carried out in Switzerland at the
Forschungs Institut für biologischen Landbau (FIBL) and at
the USDA
soil quality lab including Dr. Doran's soil quality lab
at University of Nebraska. These comparison data show excellent
correlation between quantitative lab 2 assays and the results
of the Solvita colorimetric gel technology. The USDA Soil
Quality Institute now lists the Solvita kit as an alternate soil respiration
procedure in its national soil-quality test kit program.
The Solvita test enables you to:
- estimate annual nitrogen release based on soil biological
activity
- evaluate organic matter sufficiency of soils
- make overall judgements to fit into "soil quality"
interpretation
- achieve accuracy comparable to and less expensive than
Dräger tubes
